S-Roll Privacy Policy

S-Roll is developed and operated by Ritik Bompilwar. This policy explains how the app, its website, the model downloads, the update check, and support email handle information. The short version: S-Roll has no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking, and your videos never leave your Mac. The only personal data involved anywhere is the basic connection data that any internet request creates, described below.

Your content stays on your Mac

Videos you import, transcripts, clips, edits, chat conversations, and everything the app derives from them are processed and stored only on your Mac. Nothing you make or import is ever uploaded anywhere. The app’s machine-learning features run locally on your machine; they do not call any cloud service.

No accounts, no analytics, no tracking

There is no account and no sign-in. The app contains no analytics or telemetry, no advertising, no crash-reporting service, and no third-party tracking code of any kind. I cannot see how you use S-Roll, by design.

When the app touches the network

1. One-time model download. At first launch the app downloads the machine-learning model files it needs (about 6 GB) over HTTPS from fixed, published URLs and verifies each file against a pinned checksum. This is an ordinary file download; it carries no account, identifier, or usage information.
2. Update notice. On launch the app reads a small public status file from the S-Roll website to learn whether a newer version is available (and, in rare cases, whether a version needs an update before continuing). The request sends no identifiers, no cookies, and no query parameters, so nothing about you or your content goes with it. If you are offline, the app simply works; the check silently does nothing.

Like any HTTPS request, these connections reveal standard connection data to the server involved: an IP address, a user agent, the file requested, and a timestamp. The update check therefore necessarily reveals that some Mac launched the app at some moment; it carries nothing that ties the request to you or your content. I do not receive, use, or keep any of this data. The website and the update check are served through Google Cloud, and the model files are downloaded from Hugging Face; each provider processes connection data under its own privacy policy (Google, Hugging Face).

Support email

If you email me at ritik@saliency.dev, I receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. I use it only to respond, and I keep it only as ordinary correspondence.

Data on your Mac

Projects, clips, and downloaded models live in the app’s sandboxed container on your Mac. Deleting a project inside the app removes its files. Uninstalling the app does not always remove the container automatically; to remove everything, also delete the app’s container folder under Library/Containers in your home folder. Clips you export are written wherever you choose and are entirely yours.

App Store

If you got S-Roll from the Mac App Store, Apple processes your App Store activity (purchase, updates) under Apple’s own privacy policy. The app itself reports nothing to me either way.

Children

S-Roll does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated text will be posted at this page with a new effective date.
